"The Little Bit Scary People"

Have you been to your community library this summer?  I'd like to take my girls at least every week, but as this has been a busier summer than usual, we're lucky to make it every two.  :)

So our last library trip brought us in contact with a cute little book called The Little Bit Scary People by Emily Jenkins and illustrated by Alexandra Boiger.  What a cute book!  Ya know how you go about town with your little ones and they see "that loud guy" or "that girl all dressed in black" or, my personal favorite, "why does that guy have all those wrinkles on his face?"  (Boy, was that almost an embarrassing occasion.  At least she had her wits about her to wait till we were out of the old gentleman's company before posing such a question!  She was only 4.)

Anyway, this little gem is a cute story that introduces a "scary" character, but then shows that if you got to know that person... well, maybe they wouldn't be so scary after all!  (This book was recommended for ages 3-6.)

You Are Special - Max Lucado

When my girls were 4 and 6 they had a favorite book called You Are Special, written by Max Lucado.  This book is a WONDERFUL, INSPIRING tool that will help to instill an understanding of what and who God is to us. It is a heart-warming tale of an adorable little wooden-person (Punchinello) who faces the "judgement of others" - and overcomes his own self-doubt by "meeting with his maker" - a most gracious and loving maker who reminds little Punchinello that he is loved for who he is... not how much he has, or what he can and cannot do - simply for who he is.

While this is a children's book, it deeply moved me as well.  It continues to inspire my little ones - who are now 6 and 8.  :)  Happy reading and God Bless.
